Know Before You Go

Heading to The Hill? Here are the essentials every festival-goer should know before you arrive:

Location: The Happening takes place in Starks, Maine — directions and maps are on the Tickets and FAQ pages.

Camping: Bring your tent or RV. Quiet hours are observed, and there’s a dedicated family-friendly camping area.

What to Bring: Warm layers, rain gear, and a reusable water bottle or cup. Don’t forget to bring a towel!

Consent & Safety: We take our responsibility to the community care seriously. Consent is always required and should be enthusiastic. Keep the Hill a safe space and show kindness for each other.

Sustainability: Attempt to Leave No Trace. Pack it in, pack it out. Help us protect the land we love, so that future generations enjoy the space.

Can I camp with my car?

Car camping is not something you should count on, vehicles are parked as they arrive. There is a chance you will be parked along a treeline and so camp may be close to your car. However, as a general rule, grass is for parking and your camp should be set up under the canopy of the trees.

When do the gates open?

Gates open at noon on Thursday and 9 AM on Friday and Saturday. If you arrive and the gates are not open, be prepared to wait in an auxillary parking lot.

Can I get a refund?

There are no ticket refunds.

Can I bring my pet?

SERVICE ANIMALS ONLY. Service animals must pass an interview on arrival and will be ejected if not responding to commands or are otherwise aggressive. Emotional Support Animals are not allowed

Can I bring my own firewood?

No. It is illegal to bring firewood from out of state into Maine due to the risk of spreading invasive pests. To protect our forests, please leave outside wood at home. Local firewood will be available on site.
