    Why Early Bird Tickets?

When you look at the excitement building for this season, one theme comes through loud and clear: don’t wait. Black Friday tickets were sold out in 24 hours. Early Bird tickets have sold out before the lineup has been announced in the past, and with the grassroots growing strong, that’s not likely to change. Early Bird tickets may have once been available in April, but with over half claimed by Valentine’s Day this year, it looks like the snow may still be on the ground before they are sold out in 2026.

So, if your heart is already on the Hill, if the idea of the first summer sunset and music under the stars fills you with joy, then snagging that Early Bird ticket is more than a smart purchase. It’s your first step toward being part of the Hillcat family.

Ready to call The Hill home again? Don’t sleep on those Early Birds — snag them early, save big, and get ready for June on Maine’s Original Music Festival.

✨ Come Home to The Hill – The Happening 2025 at Harry Brown’s Farm

A Festival That Feels Like Home

Every summer, the Hill in Starks, Maine comes alive with music, color, and community. In 2025, we’re once again inviting both familiar faces and new friends to join us for The Happening, a four-day Maine music festival rooted in creativity, connection, and cannabis culture.

Whether you’ve been part of our story since the very beginning in 1991 or you’re stepping onto the Hill for the first time, you belong here. Festivals come and go, but this one has endured because it is more than an event — it’s a tradition, a homecoming, and a way of life.

When Harry Brown first opened his farm more than three decades ago, it was with the dream of gathering people together to celebrate art, music, freedom, and cannabis in a safe and welcoming space. That dream lives on today, carried by every note of music, every shared meal, and every campfire that burns late into the night.

🎶 Music & Community in Starks, Maine

The heart of The Happening has always been the music. From Thursday through Sunday, the stages at Harry Brown’s Farm will showcase a mix of beloved local performers and emerging regional artists, bringing together the best of Maine and New England’s music scene.

This is not just a lineup — it’s a soundtrack to community. Each year, new voices join the chorus of old favorites, creating a living, breathing celebration of sound. The sets range from soulful acoustic acts under the afternoon sun to electrifying late-night jams that carry dancers into the early morning hours.

For 2025, we’re curating a diverse mix that captures the energy, passion, and creativity of our festival family. Whether you’re swaying to a folk singer, losing yourself in a jam band groove, or dancing under lasers to late-night DJs, there’s a moment for everyone.

    🌲 Camp Beneath the Trees

Camping has always been at the heart of The Happening. When thousands of Hillcats arrive, Harry Brown’s Farm transforms into a temporary village, alive with laughter, connection, and creativity.

Finding your spot beneath the trees is a ritual all its own. Some return year after year to the same shady corner, while newcomers discover fresh favorite spots to pitch their tents. The campground becomes a neighborhood of hammocks, campers, and tents, with trails weaving between kitchens, stages, and fire circles.

There is a kind of magic in the simplicity of festival camping. Phones are left behind, shoes are kicked off, and life slows down to the rhythm of music and friendship. By day, the sun filters through the branches as people gather to cook meals, play guitar, or simply nap in the shade. By night, the glow of lanterns and firelight creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere where stories are told and bonds are formed.

💧 Cool Off by the Lilypad Stage

For many, the Lilypad Stage is the heart of summer at The Happening. Tucked beside the water, it’s where festival-goers dive in to cool off between sets, float lazily on the stream, or stretch out on the grass to watch intimate daytime performances.

There is nothing quite like hearing live music echo across the water while you float in the sunshine. Noodles, rafts, and inflatable unicorns drift together as laughter and music mingle in the air. The Lilypad brings out the carefree joy of childhood while still offering the rich energy of a Maine summer festival.

As the day moves into evening, the Lilypad transforms. Sunsets paint the sky in orange and pink as performers serenade swimmers and loungers. For many Hillcats, this is where some of the most memorable festival moments are born — moments of community, beauty, and pure joy.

🔥 Late Night in the Art Tent

When the sun goes down, the Hill transforms. Lights glow across the farm, lasers cut through the mist, and the Art Tent becomes a world of its own.

Friday night’s legendary Unicorn Tea Party is a tradition that draws both newcomers and longtime Hillcats. Costumes sparkle, face paint glows, and creativity flows as DJs and performers bring the crowd to life. The Art Tent is a space where imagination knows no limits, and each year it becomes a canvas of community expression.

Whether you’re dancing shoulder to shoulder with strangers-turned-friends, admiring the artistry of costumes and performance, or simply soaking in the energy, the late-night Art Tent experience is unforgettable. It is these shared moments of expression and release that turn a weekend festival into a lifelong memory.

    🌿 Cannabis Culture & Community

The Happening has always been deeply connected to Maine’s cannabis culture. From Harry’s early activism in the 1990s to the modern cannabis community of today, the farm has been a gathering place for education, celebration, and advocacy.

Events like the Ganja Grail cannabis competition highlight the artistry and dedication of Maine growers, while conversations around the campfire continue the legacy of cannabis activism. The Happening is more than music — it is a living tradition that celebrates freedom, plant medicine, and community resilience.

This spirit of cannabis culture runs throughout the festival, woven into the art, the conversations, and the connections people carry home. It is part of what makes The Happening unique among Maine music festivals — a true blend of culture, creativity, and community.

💚 A Homecoming for All Generations

One of the most beautiful parts of The Happening is the way it welcomes families. The Kid’s Zone offers crafts and play, giving children a chance to create their own festival memories. Parents find a safe and welcoming space to relax while little ones explore.

Generations come together on the Hill — elders share stories of the early festivals, while younger Hillcats bring fresh energy and vision. Together, they create a living tradition that bridges past and future.

✨ A New Chapter for The Happening

For 35 years, The Happening has brought people together at Harry Brown’s Farm in Starks, Maine. What began in 1991 as a dream to create space for music, art, activism, and cannabis culture has grown into one of New England’s most beloved summer festivals. Now, as we celebrate this milestone year, we’re expanding how we connect with you — introducing The Happening Blog.

This is more than a news page. It’s an extension of the Hill itself: a place where voices come together, stories are shared, and community thrives long after the stages go quiet.

🌱 Building Community Beyond Social Media

Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram help us share quick updates, but we wanted something deeper — a home base for festival storytelling. The Happening Blog is that space. Here, you’ll find:

    • 🎶 Festival updates – tickets, schedules, announcements.

    • 🌟 Artist spotlights – meet the musicians, DJs, and performers who make the Hill come alive.

    • 🎭 Behind-the-scenes stories – a look at how the festival is built, from stage setup to creative collaborations.

    • 🏕️ Community highlights – stories of families, vendors, and Hillcats who make The Happening unique.

And most importantly, this blog is interactive. We want to hear from you.

🌱 Have a favorite memory from The Hill? Share it in the comments.
📸 Captured a moment you’ll never forget? Post your photos.
💡 Got an idea for this year’s event? We’re listening.

Just like the festival itself, this blog is meant to be a conversation, not a monologue.

🎶 Honoring 35 Years of Music, Art & Togetherness

2025 marks a milestone: 35 years of The Happening. That’s 35 summers of live music, camping, art, and cannabis community gatherings in the Maine woods. It’s an honor to host the incredible performers, visionary artists, grassroots vendors, and passionate volunteers who make it all possible.

What makes The Happening different from other Maine music festivals? It’s not just about the lineup (though it’s always fire). It’s about the people. The artists who jam together after their sets. The families who bring kids year after year. The vendors who set up colorful, handmade creations. The Hillcats who come back each June because this isn’t just entertainment — it’s home.

We often say: The Happening isn’t a festival, it’s a family. That spirit is at the core of everything we do, and this blog is another way to honor and share it.

    🌿 Cannabis Culture & Celebration

Since the very beginning, The Happening has also been a cannabis culture festival — a place where cannabis is celebrated, respected, and elevated as part of community life.

From Harry Brown’s activism in the 1990s to the modern Ganja Grail cannabis competition, The Hill has always been a hub for both culture and advocacy. The Happening Blog will continue that tradition by highlighting stories about cannabis in Maine, the farmers and growers who contribute to our community, and the ways cannabis culture strengthens the connections we share.

For many, this festival is more than music — it’s a living tradition of cannabis community in Maine. And this blog is a way to carry that culture forward, year-round.

🏕️ Family-Friendly Music Festival in Maine

Another unique part of The Happening is how family-friendly it is. We’ve seen generations grow up on The Hill — kids who once splashed at the Lilypad Stage are now performing on our stages or bringing their own children.

The Kid’s Zone and family camping areas make it easy for parents to relax while little ones explore crafts, games, and music. The Happening Blog will spotlight these family traditions, because they remind us that the festival isn’t just for one generation — it’s for all of us.
